Why Do We Get Anxious?

  To people who work in the medical profession, anxiety is a psychological state characterized by cognitive (mental), somatic(physical), emotional, and behavioral components. These components join together to create feelings we normally call fear, apprehension, and worry. To normal people devoid of medical technical knowledge, anxiety is the distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear or danger or misfortune. Everybody feels it, but what causes anxiety?

There isn't a specific cause for anxiety, it is possible that a lot of different factors have contributed to a person's vulnerability to anxiety. But more often than not, anxiety is triggered by stressful events in our lives. Anxiety levels vary from person to person as we react to stress differently from each other. Some are more vulnerable to anxiety than others, but even those who easily succumb to anxiety may learn how to get around and manage it.

Recent studies have narrowed down the causes to three groups:

The Complex Web Of War Tragedies

  They say that in war, nobody really wins but everyone becomes a victim of mans atrocities and evil doings against each other. War is a complex web of tragedies one after another. Violations of human rights is prevalent as well as oppression, sexual abuse of women, deaths and massacres. Surviving the horrible memories of war can cause severe stress and anxiety to an individual which may lead to other serious medical conditions.
Reliving the harrowing experience of war has become a daily nightmare to many military and civilian survivors, men and women, young and old alike. For a long time, they will always remember the sounds of gunfire and bomb explosions ricocheting in their heads day in and day out. They were witnesses to their beloved friends, families, and relatives who were being gunned down to death or getting dismembered. Scenes of burying their own dead in open trenches continue to flash back in their minds. Soldiers are haunted by episodes of being forced to shoot innocent civilians, including women and children. All in the name of duty.
